Leverkusen, 22.03.2022 – Fighting climate change with trees: Leverkusen-based project developer Cube Real Estate wants to create a sustainable balance for its own construction projects in the form of unsealed forest areas in Germany with the company’s own reforestation project Cube Wood and thus actively participate in climate protection. Julian Boigenreif was appointed Managing Director of Cube Wood gGmbH as of February 1, 2022. In addition to managing Cube Wood gGmbH, he will also assume central responsibility for the sustainability strategy and its pursuit throughout Cube Real Estate. For example, an internal sustainability task force was recently established, which now involves all managers in the key areas for targeted, internal CO2 reduction and implementation of the sustainability strategy.

Cube Wood aims to contribute to the preservation and reforestation of forests by purchasing and leasing forest land as well as agricultural and fallow land. Areas that have been cleared, uprooted by storms or weakened by pest infestation are reforested in a controlled manner, thereby increasing the forest population. The holistic consideration of the forest ecosystem also benefits the adjacent biodiversity. In addition, the forest areas will be used for scientific studies to promote research into the reduction and conversion of CO2.

Not only do they convert climate-damaging CO2 into glucose and oxygen in combination with water, they also provide a habitat for animals and plants and have a cooling effect. Prior to his position as Managing Director at Cube Wood, Julian Boigenreif gained experience in landscape architecture offices and tree care companies. After training as a gardener specializing in horticulture and landscaping in 2014, Boigenreif went on to study landscape architecture at Geisenheim University. Born in Berlin and a Hessian by choice, he has extensive expertise in tree assessment, tree care and park maintenance management.
