Project developer Cube Real Estate GmbH has received an important sustainability award for the first construction phase of the Cube Factory 577 project: the prestigious LEED Gold certificate. This certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in Atlanta underlines Cube Real Estate’s commitment to environmentally friendly and future-oriented building concepts.

The LEED certification system (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) evaluates sustainable building projects in several categories in order to promote their positive impact on the environment and user comfort. Building 1 of Cube Factory 577, which achieved LEED Gold certification under the “Building Design and Construction: Core and Shell Development” classification, was assessed for aspects such as site accessibility and transportation routes, water efficiency, energy savings and the quality of the interior spaces.

Comprehensive site connections, direct proximity to TH Köln and special parking spaces for bicycles and electric vehicles promote sustainable mobility and reduce the need for individual car journeys. As a revitalized existing building, Cube Factory 577 uses the existing structure of the former railroad repair works, which minimizes the amount of materials required for new buildings and conserves resources. The building itself is characterized by its energy-efficient construction and measures to reduce light pollution through the use of intelligent lighting systems. In addition, numerous resource-conserving materials are used to reduce the ecological footprint and sustainably enhance the existing building.
